Cardi B And Offset Almost Off The Hook In Property Damage Lawsuit

Cardi B’s estranged partner, Offset, has struck a tentative arrangement with the landlord who sued them!

The rapper has reportedly agreed to compensate for damages caused to the plaintiff’s apartment while they resided there for a lengthy period.

Cardi B and Offset’s company, Sallie Smith LLC, were dragged to court by SD Squared in December 2023. The landlord accused the former couple of breach of contract and negligence.

Cardi B’s Estranged Husband And The Landlord Still Going Over Details Before Settlement

Offset has reached a tentative settlement with a landlord who had sued him and his estranged wife, Cardi, regarding alleged damages to a mansion in Los Angeles. The agreement was formed during mediation on November 7, 2024, as revealed in court documents.

The rapper and the landlord reportedly agreed “in principle to a settlement” but “still need to agree on a couple of details before executing the settlement agreement.”

In Touch shared that in December 2023, SD Squared filed a lawsuit against Offset, Cardi, and Offset’s company, Sallie Smith LLC, alleging breach of contract and negligence. The lawsuit claimed that Offset’s company had signed a lease for a home in Los Angeles, which began in February 2022.

According to SD Squared, Cardi and Offset resided in the property for 20 months but vacated without notice in October 2023. The lawsuit further stated that they failed to pay rent and utilities for a certain period during their tenancy.

The landlord also claimed the estranged couple left behind substantial property damage after vacating the residence. The reported damages include permanent stains and scratches on the limestone tile floors, damaged rugs and curtains, and colored paint on white leather furniture.

Also included are burn marks on various surfaces, broken furniture and speakers, and excessive holes and marks on the walls.

The total cost of repairs is estimated to be at least $85,000. According to the landlord’s lawyer, the defendants have disregarded multiple attempts to resolve the issue amicably, prompting the landlord to pursue legal action.

However, Offset and his company, Sallie Smith LLC, denied all allegations of wrongdoing regarding their lease agreement. They contend that certain parts of the agreement are unconscionable and that other terms were obtained through duress and fraud.

In response to the dispute with the landlord, Offset’s company filed a countersuit, asserting that they had initially agreed to pay $35,000 per month for a luxurious five-bedroom, six-bathroom mansion covering 8,535 square feet in Beverly Hills.

However, they allege that at one point, the landlord demanded an increase in rent to $45,000 monthly.

The musician team also claimed that the landlord failed to repair hazardous steps, which Offset alleged resulted in an injury to one of his relatives.

According to Offset, when he requested repairs, the landlord refused and instead suggested they could vacate the property if they did not agree to waive any claims related to the injury.

The lawsuit stated that Offset felt compelled to comply with the landlord’s demands, as vacating the property would have posed significant challenges, especially given his and his then-wife Cardi’s busy work schedules and responsibilities as parents of young children.

In June 2023, Offset ultimately decided to leave the home after the landlord increased the rent to $75,000 monthly. Offset’s company also pointed out that the landlord did not provide any substantiating evidence for the alleged damages.

Instead, the landlord accused them of failing to return a $35,000 deposit belonging to Sallie Smith. The case is, however, expected to be resolved once both parties finalize a settlement agreement.

The Estranged Couple Were Named In A Nonpayment Lawsuit Last Year Amid Their Divorce

Last year, the former lovebirds found themselves in the midst of a lawsuit brought by the owner of a mansion. The lawsuit, as reported by The Blast, alleged that the two used the property to film a music video without obtaining consent or compensation.

The owner claims that the luxurious Beverly Hills mansion, which was featured in their music video for “Like What,” released in March, was used without permission.

Offset directed the music video for Cardi’s song, but it seems that he and Cardi, along with their team, may have taken shortcuts in securing the mansion for the shoot.

The property owner alleged that representatives for the estranged couple informed him that an unnamed client was interested in filming a TikTok video at the location. The homeowner regrettably allowed Cardi and Offset to use his property for free, mistakenly believing the situation was different.

He later expressed that had he known they intended to film a music video at his home, he would have charged them just like he did with other celebrities.

The mansion reportedly has a history of celebrity rentals, having previously been leased by Justin Bieber and featured in a Logan Paul music video. In light of the exposure and popularity of Cardi’s “Like What” video, the owner sought over $35,000 in damages.

Cardi B’s Estranged Husband, Offset, Expressed His Terms In Ongoing Divorce Process

Last month, The Blast shared that the  Atlanta-born rapper finally came up with his preferences in the ongoing dissolution of his marriage to the social media influencer. Offset noted that he would love the entire process to be stress-free, hence his decision.

Offset reiterated his desire to end his marriage to the performer and declared that he is focused on establishing shared custody of their children. The rapper sought joint legal custody of their three kids, with a preference for Cardi’s home to be designated as their primary residence.

Additionally, Offset requested a court ruling to clarify child support responsibilities for both parents following their separation, which Cardi initiated while she was pregnant with their third child.

He also moved to divide their marital property and asked that both parents be responsible for their legal fees.
