Enraged Angel Reese screams in her coach’s face before turning on her own fans
Angel Reese made history in the Unrivaled league on Friday night as she became the first player to record a 20-20 game – but the WNBA superstar’s game ended in controversy
Angel Reese was left furious after fouling out in Friday’s Unrivaled game between her Rose Basketball Club and the Lunar Owls – having made league history in the process.
Reese became the first player in the history of the new startup league to put up a 20-20 game, clocking 22 points and 21 rebounds. Her performance earned the Rose a 72-63 win – but her game didn’t end there.
Late on, Reese was posting up when an opposing defender took a charge, falling to the ground and selling the call to the referees. Reese made the bucket but was immediately pulled up for the foul, which left her furious.
The Chicago Sky superstar was incensed by the ruling and walked straight over to her Rose coach, Nola Henry, to demand she challenge the call. Henry stood firm and refused to make the call, leading to Reese screaming in her face while clapping her hands.
That was Reese’s final play of the game, fouling out with just four points remaining for the Rose to get before winning the game. Her actions were met with a divisive reaction online, with one fan writing: “Angel Reese is exactly who she thinks she is. Don’t be on the wrong side of history when it’s said and done.”
Reese disagreed with that, however, and told any critics not to flip with their opinions, writing in response: “no. tell them stay on that side. please.”
Angel Reese was seen shouting and clapping in her coach’s face
Reese will undoubtedly want to remember the game for breaking the Unrivaled 20-20 record, and didn’t hide her emotions in the post-match press conference. Clearly holding back tears, the forward opened up on her journey to this point.
“It’s so much I can say. But for me, to keep going, it’s hard. It is hard. To live my life isn’t easy. And I don’t want to get emotional, but that’s why I put the work in every day.”
Speaking about her new-found attacking threat – with Reese currently averaging 11.4 rebounds per game – she said: ““Being able to see my growth, I put in the work, and a lot of people don’t see what I put in. It’s great to see the results out there. But obviously, I’m not done yet.”
