The lavish wedding hall fell silent, the air filled with anticipation. All eyes were on the front, where the bride, Vanessa Clark, stood, smiling with a mixture of arrogance.

“For our next number,” he said, “my assistant Emma is going to put on a special performance.”

Emma Wilson, the young pregnant maid in a corner, trembled in her chest. He sighed as he was pushed closer to the stage. He didn’t think he would be used as a show, a toy in front of guests.

She was twenty-eight years old, and had never imagined that she would be a maid at a luxury mansion in Los Angeles. Back then, he dreamed of Nashville stage lights, not sweeping and cleaning floors. But after the musician and the father of the baby she was carrying abandoned her, she was forced to work to provide for the two of them.

One morning, he met Vanessa in the hallway.

“Please make sure I never have to look at you while you’re working,” he said coldly. Emma hugged her stomach tightly. “Yes, Miss Clark,” she replied softly.

The mansion itself looked like a dungeon. As she lifted the broom and wiped it off, the approaching wedding only added more weight to her chest. Her only comfort was the kindness of Antonio Díaz, the head cook, who secretly gave her food.

“You’re feeding two,” he joked with a smile. Emma’s heart softened; That’s a reminder that some people don’t treat him as worthless.

One afternoon, as she was cleaning up Richard Bennett’s library, she unconsciously found herself singing a creation of her own — a tune of pain and hope. Richard listened silently from the doorway.

“You have a beautiful voice, Emma,” she said. He came from a distance. “It used to be… I sing a lot.”

“‘Don’t let your talent stay hidden,” Richard added, unaware that Vanessa was watching them, her gaze slowly darkening.

The day of the wedding came, and Emma felt the weight of nervousness. The night before, he had heard Vanessa was planning something — a “special surprise.” Emma knew she was in charge.

At the end of the ceremony, he was busy delivering drinks and drinks. Suddenly, Vanessa spoke.

“Our singer is sick,” he said with a fake smile. “Emma, you’re the only one singing for the first dance. Richard would be delighted.”

Emma’s body shuddered. He knew it was a trap. But the wedding planner violently pushed her into the middle.

“This is Emma,” Vanessa announced. “He was proud to believe that he could sing.”

Emma felt the twinkle in her eyes. But instead of giving up, he chose to sing his own creation — a song born of pain and courage.

“Its title is Rise,” he said softly but firmly.

As soon as he opened his mouth, the hall was filled with music. She sang the song with all her heart, every tune accompanied by tears and hope. At the end, the applause erupted. But Vanessa angrily grabbed the microphone.

“It’s so cute,” she said sarcastically. “Go back to the kitchen.”

In a hurry, Emma slipped and automatically put her hand on her stomach. People were screaming. Richard approached immediately.

“Are you alright?” he asked worriedly.

“Yes… just a little rest,” Emma replied, trembling.

Richard ignored Vanessa’s objections. “It’s over,” he said firmly, at the same time undressing the ring. Everything stopped, incredulous.

Richard’s mother, Margaret, came to visit. “You’ve embarrassed this little girl. I will not tolerate this cruelty.”

Paramedics arrived to make sure Emma was safe. Vanessa’s mask fell off, the perfect wedding collapsed.

A few days later, Richard accompanied Emma to the hospital. The more they cared for him, the stronger their bond became. She encouraged Emma to embrace her music and motherhood again.

Soon after, his song Rise Again went on the radio. Her courage grows, and when Jake tries to return, she steadfastly refuses — Richard is by her side, providing protection and love. He was no longer the feared servant. She was now a mother, an emerging singer, and a woman no longer covered by others.

At her first big concert at the Hollywood Bowl, Emma had a mixture of nervousness and anticipation. As he looked at Richard and Lily in the middle of the audience, he sang every note with great courage.

The applause erupted. And as she sang, Emma knew she had regained not only her voice, but also dignity and a future.
