Serena Williams’ Husband Plots to Turn WNBA Star Caitlin Clark’s Dream Dinner Into Reality

Caitlin Clark, navigating a storm of negativity last year, found a beacon of support in Serena Williams. “If people are negative, it’s because they can’t do what you do,” Serena told her, a message that clearly resonated. Clark, like Serena, chose to tune out the noise, focusing on her game. It seemed a simple act of encouragement, but something more significant was brewing. Recently, Clark revealed a special wish: a dinner with Serena Williams. And now, thanks to Serena’s husband, that wish isn’t just a dream – it’s about to become a reality.

When asked “If you could have dinner with any celebrity, who would it be?”, Clark simply replied, “Ooo good question. Serena Williams”. It seems all it took was just this clip to make her dream come true. Thanks to Williams’ husband and former Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian.

Sharing an official response to the WNBA star, Ohanian wrote on X, “C’mon now @CaitlinClark22 there’s an open invitation at our home!”

Last year, Williams crossed paths with Clark in a funny manner, to say the least. She got to host the prestigious ESPYs awards event, by ESPN. In the history of the event, she was just the fourth woman to take the stage as host. But she did a pretty good job, especially in landing some witty jokes. One was directed at the Indiana Fever icon, too.

She was nominated for various honors in her rookie year. Giving her a shout out, Williams said, “Caitlin Clark had an amazing year and is nominated for three awards,” reported Deadline in July 2024. She then commented, “You are the Larry Bird in that you are an amazing player, you have ties to Indiana, and white people are really crazy about you.” Clark later appreciated her humorous side. Serena Williams becomes a key investor of the new WNBA team

For the uninitiated, WNBA will add two new teams to an already existing list of 12. While the Golden State will arrive this year, a Canada-based team, Toronto Tempo, will debut in 2026. And guess what? Serena Williams is one of its major investors now.

On March 3, it was announced that Williams, who always stays committed to boost women’s sports, has joined WNBA as a part-owner of Toronto. In her IG post, she shared a clip and wrote, “New court, new game. 🏀 I am incredibly excited to join the @torontotempo as the team’s newest owner.” It will be the first team in the league’s history to be based out of the US.

Williams added, “This moment is not just about basketball; it is about showcasing the true value and potential of female athletes — I have always said that women’s sports are an incredible investment opportunity. I am excited to partner with Larry (Tanenbaum) and all of Canada in creating this new WNBA franchise and legacy.”

Alongside the tennis legend, Kilmer Sports Ventures will partly own the new team. Larry Tanenbaum is KSV’s chairman. He also happens to be the chairman of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, which owns several other franchises too. For example, NBA’s Toronto Raptors, Toronto Maple Leafs from the NHL, and Toronto FC in the MLS.

Williams’ entry into the WNBA comes after her existing involvement with other sports teams. She already owns a stake in women’s soccer team, Angel City FC. Others include NFL’s Miami Dolphins and TGL’s Los Angeles Golf Club alongside her husband Alexis Ohanian. The latter was himself spotted donating a big amount last year to Virginia’s basketball program. Clearly, the power couple is making some noble strides to push women in sports forward.
