I GAVE MY BED TO MY MOTHER-IN-LAW ON MY WEDDING NIGHT BECAUSE SHE WAS “DRUNK” — THE NEXT MORNING, I FOUND SOMETHING STUCK TO THE BED STRAPS THAT STOPPED MY BREATHING
Janice and Gabriel are newlyweds. The reception was held at a resort in Baguio, the air was cold and the night was dark but the surroundings were full of laughter and dancing.
Among the guests who enjoyed the festivities was Gabriel’s mother, Teresa.
Around midnight, Teresa came in looking dizzy and flushed with red cheeks.
“Son… I’m already feeling dizzy. “It’s like it’s going around,” he said as he leaned over Gabriel’s shoulder.
Gabriel was worried, but Janice was even more shocked when the mother-in-law said, “I’m going to sleep in your room, huh?”
I can’t go up to the other side of the cottage, I might even fall.”
Janice and Gabriel looked at each other. It was their first night as a couple and they planned to relax on their own. But they didn’t want to embarrass Teresa in front of some of the remaining relatives.
“Mom,” Janice said quietly, “there’s a guest room in the basement.”
Teresa, however, shook her head. “Oh my gosh, I’m cold. I’ll be right there in your bed. It’s just a moment.”
Gabriel was embarrassed and whispered softly to Janice, “Hon, let’s give it to you. He might even be able to get away with it.”
Janice sighed but smiled. “Come on, Mom, you’ve been there. Gabe and I were alone on the couch.”
OVERNIGHT QUIET AND CROWDED
The sofa bed in the living room was cramped and cold. They slept next to each other but were visibly uncomfortable. Janice was silent all night, but she didn’t say a word.
The next morning, Teresa came down as if nothing had happened.
“Thank you! Your bed is soft. “I felt like I was sleeping in the clouds!” she laughed.

As they were eating breakfast, Janice noticed that the door to their room was open. He decided to fix the bed before they packed up on the way home.
As he approached, he was suddenly stunned.
In the middle of the bed, there was a small envelope that was partially stained. It seemed like a deliberate abandonment.
He picked it up gently. Taped to the back of the envelope was an old ring—an antique design that had been obviously preserved.
On the front:
“For Janice… Don’t read it right away.”
A shiver ran through his chest. He immediately called out to Gabriel.
“Gabe… Come on, look at this.”
THE SECRET HERITAGE
They opened the envelope. Teresa’s handwriting is on the inside:
“Janice, I’m sorry I claimed your bed last night. I’m not really drunk. I just wanted to leave it without you being distracted. This was the one I wore to my wedding to Gabriel’s father.
For a long time I wondered who I was going to give. I know you are the right person. Don’t tell Gabriel right away — I just want you to put it on when you’re ready. Thank you for loving my son. – Teresa”
Gabriel was silent as he squeezed his wife’s hand. “I didn’t know my mom had that…”
Janice burst into tears. Not out of resentment, but because of the weight of the ring’s meaning.
Gabriel put the ring on Janice’s ring. “It’s a symbol of my family’s love and respect for you.”
TERESA’S CONFESSION
At noon, Teresa returned with noodles and bread.
As soon as Janice approached, she hugged him instantly. “Ma… Thanks. I didn’t expect that.”
Teresa was shocked but smiled. “Oh, you know. I was scared to tell you about yesterday. I’m not used to drama.”
Gabriel’s eyes rolled but he smiled. “Mom, next time, you don’t have to be a jerk.”
Teresa laughed. “It would be a shame if I had to give it to you all of a sudden!” You might think I’m an.”
At the small cottage in Baguio, a moment even more meaningful at the reception was formed: a silent blessing, a legacy of acceptance, and a new beginning not just as a couple—but as a family.
That’s when Janice came to understand:
