Natasha Cloud appeared to take a shot at the WNBA and how the league’s teams conducted their business compared to Unrivaled.
On Saturday, Cloud, who turned 33 on the day, was everywhere for Phantom BC, putting in 15 points, grabbing seven rebounds and dishing out two assists in the 79-72 win. More importantly, it was Cloud who nailed the game-winning shot for the Phantom after getting a pass from Sabrina Ionescu, helping the team inch closer to playoff contention.
After the game, Cloud spoke to reporters about the last few weeks, which have been filled with upheaval in the 33-year-old’s life. In particular, it appeared as if the Phantom BC star took a shot at the WNBA and how players aren’t necessarily seen as people but rather as commodities.
Yeah, honestly, I think being around people that you enjoy going to work with every single day has really like fueled me and kind of brought me back to reality of coming in and enjoying the space that you are safe to feel whatever you feel that day,” Cloud shared with reporters after the win.
“And if you only have 20 percent to give that day, my teammates are going to pick up the other 80 percent. So that’s been huge for me of just really being in this oasis, basketball is an oasis for us. … Even though we’ve gone through some turmoil this season, we have stayed consistent with each other.
“And yeah, you just go about your day, you understand it’s a business. And that’s the hard part about it. But there is still a human being behind those jerseys and behind that business. So I’m never going to apologize for feeling what I feel because my feelings are valid.”

Cloud’s comments come after the star was traded to the Connecticut Sun in a massive four-team deal that saw Alyssa Thomas, Satou Sabally, Kalani Brown and Sevgi Uzun heading to the Phoenix Mercury and Sophie Cunningham, a 2025 second-round pick and Jaelyn Brown heading to the Indiana Fever.
After the dust settled, the 33-year-old shared on social media how the trade further exemplified how the league views its players. “The last few weeks have been a whirlwind, to say the least,” Cloud told reporters after an Unrivaled game earlier in the month.
“I think for the public view, if this isn’t proof enough of the business of the NBA, the WNBA… this is what it is. It’s really hard to be loyal to organizations in this situation when you can just up and move no matter what.
“And so that was really hard for me, uprooting my family to the West Coast, being told I was going to retire as a Phoenix Mercury, and to then be shipped out and find out with you guys on social media, that was really fun for me.”
In the end, Cloud thanked Unrivaled for its ability to keep the WNBA’s biggest stars stateside, which allows her to be closer to her family during the offseason.
“That demand for wanting players here was here in the offseason,” Cloud said. “And I think Unrivaled answered that by keeping us here, offsetting that money that we would make overseas to make sure that we were still paid for by staying stateside, having the adequate care, adequate facilities, trainers, staff, coaches, development, food.”
