Chiefs head coach Andy Reid opened up about NFL rivals are getting incorrect about KelceCreditKelce entered the playoffs with retirement rumors surrounding him after notching career-lows in receiving yards (823) and touchdowns (3).
The 35-year-old shut down that talk with his latest stellar postseason performance.
On Monday, Reid was asked about Kelce’s knack for flipping a switch come playoff time, and the leader of men took a different route in his answer.
“I’m happy for him with the seven catches … but I think more of it is just we have a variety of guys around him,” Reid said in a Zoom call.
“The opportunities that he’s had he’s done well with, and I don’t think it’s his play that has been reduced.
“When everybody asks about age, by age or physical ability or anything, I just think that you have a variety of guys that we’ve been able to use around him.
“When we didn’t teams were gaining up on him.
“It’s a good problem now because guys are healthy, and we’ve got choices out there and they can’t really just focus on him.”
The Chiefs didn’t get too much production from offensive playmakers other than Kelce as they totaled just 212 total yards of offense against Houston.
Still, their presence seemed to open up things for Kelce to add to his playoff resume
The 10-time Pro Bowler tight end made history with his showing, passing Jerry Rice for the most 100-yard receiving games in NFL postseason history with nine.
He also surpassed 2,000 playoff-receiving yards – a feat that only Rice has achieved.
Kelce had already broken Rice’s previous postseason receptions record last season.
And he has the most receptions and yards by a tight end in playoff history
The Chiefs will now prepare to play the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship game this Sunday.
Patrick Mahomes has a 3-0 career playoff record against Josh Allen’s Buffalo squad.
However, Kansas City lost to the Bills in the regular season
Kelce is looking to win his fourth Super Bowl ring.
And the Kansas City squad will hope to achieve the league’s first-ever three-peat.
