“Something is wrong,” the midwife whispered.
When 29-year-old Grace Mbele went into labor in Pretoria, South Africa, doctors were preparing for what they believed would be a record-breaking birth: 10 babies at once.
The entire maternity ward shuddered in anticipation. The cameras are waiting. Nurses are whispering about the Guinness World Record.
But no one could have predicted what they would witness that night: something that would quite surprise even the most experienced doctors.
The Miracle Mother
Grace and her husband, Samuel, have struggled for years to have children. After five failed fertility treatments, their sixth IVF attempt was finally successful, but the ultrasounds continue to surprise everyone.
First there is the twins.
And then there are the triplets.
And then there are seven.
By the seventh month, ultrasound showed ten different heartbeats.
“It was like a dream,” Grace said later. “We didn’t question it. We just want to thank God.” Hospitals have set up a special delivery room. Ten incubators are lined up. A team of twelve doctors and thirty nurses were assigned to the delivery.
The Longest Night

On the evening of June 8, 2025, Grace went to work.
It lasted nine hours.
The first scream was heard at 9:24 p.m.: a healthy baby girl.
Then, one after another, the births continued: boys and girls, small but breathing.
By the time the ninth baby arrived, everyone in the room was exhausted but euphoric. The nurses were crying. One of them yelled, “He did it! Ten miracles!”
But as the tenth delivery began, the monitors beeped awkwardly.
“Doctor, your heartbeat is not normal!”
Grace screamed in pain, and the atmosphere immediately went from celebration to excitement.
The Thing That Doesn’t Cry
When the tenth “baby” was born, silence filled the room.
No one is crying. There is no movement. There are no signs of life.
At first, the nurses thought it was a stillbirth. But when the doctor gently lifted him up, everything froze.
What they saw was not a baby.
Wrapped in a translucent membrane is something that looks almost human: small limbs, but the skin is hard, gray, and cold to the touch. It was shaped like a head, but lacked facial features. The body seemed to be joined together, with a strange, net-like tissue connecting it to a thin cord that was still attached to Grace.
A nurse immediately lost consciousness. The other dropped his gear.
Dr. Luyanda, the chief obstetrician, whispered:
“It’s… It’s not a fetus. It’s different.”
Fear of the Room
A few minutes later, security personnel were cleaning the room. The tenth item was carefully placed inside a sterile container. Grace was calmed down and transferred to intensive care.
Rumors spread like wildfire in the hallways of the hospital:
“A deformed twin?”
“A medical anomaly?”
“Something supernatural?”
Authorities tried to keep the situation a secret, but in the early hours of the morning, a blurry photo surfaced online. It showed a nurse holding a small bundle wrapped in surgical cloth, what appeared to be a faint metallic sheen on the skin.
The caption reads: “The tenth baby… he’s not a child.”
The internet has exploded.
The official investigation
Three days later, the Department of Health (DOH) held a press conference.
Dr. Luyanda stood in front of flickering cameras and trembling reporters. His voice was stiff, but his eyes were startled.
“We can confirm that Ms Grace Mbele has given birth to nine healthy babies,” he began.
“However, the tenth sample is being tested. It does not match the biological markers of a human baby.”
That phrase changed everything.
The “tenth baby” was immediately transferred to the National Biomedical Research Centre in Johannesburg. Scientists kept him under observation for 24 hours.
What They Found Inside
At first glance, the object looks like a malformed fetus about 20 weeks old, but the images reveal something extraordinary: small metal structures embedded beneath its surface, forming a symmetrical pattern.
“It’s like a circuit,” one researcher said.
When scanned with an MRI, it emits weak electromagnetic signals, similar to those of a microchip. However, it is made up of organic tissue.
No one can explain it.
Forensic biologist Dr. Naomi Lefebvre said:
“It’s unlike anything we’ve seen before. It’s not synthetic. It’s not completely biological. It’s… both.”
The doctor called him “Subject 10.”
Grace’s Strange Dream
Meanwhile, Grace was unconscious for nearly 36 hours after giving birth. When she woke up, her first question was, “Where’s the silence?”
Her husband thought she was referring to the younger baby. But she shook her head.
“No,” she whispered. “A man who hasn’t cried yet. I felt like he was looking at me in my stomach. He’s not like everyone else.”
Doctors treated it as postpartum trauma. But when she described her final ultrasound, they felt trembling.
Grace recalled seeing something the technician had ignored: a flicker of movement, separated from the rest of the babies. “There was no heartbeat,” she said. “But it moved.”
