After the wedding, the couple sat down to open the envelope and saw the envelope from her husband’s ex-lover, inside there was $500 and a pregnancy test, which shocked me deeply.

On the wedding night, in the middle of a hotel room in New York that still smelled of wedding flowers, Emily and James did not hug each other sweetly but diligently… counted the envelopes.

“Are you satisfied with the wedding gift? Don’t think it’s easy to settle down. I’ll see you soon.”

Emily was stunned. She threw the phone on the bed and then…tears welled up:

If the baby is James’s, I’ll leave, give it up. I swear. But if not, you have to apologize and disappear from our lives.”

Sophie stood there, her lips trembling, unable to speak.

Three days later, Sophie disappeared, erasing all traces on social media. No one saw her again.

On the table, there was still the purple envelope with the $500 bill and the pregnancy test – like a scar reminding her of the storm that had just passed.

Emily closed the file, looked at James:
