ITV will be airing the biopic Torvill and Dean tonight (Tuesday, December 25) at 9.15pm and will be a one-off film exploring the two skaters, charting their rise to fame. Will Tudor of Game of Thrones fame will portray Christopher Dean and Jayne Torvill will be played Ackley Bridge star Poppy Lee Friar. Here’s everything you need to know about the settings and filming locations for Torvill and Dean.

Where is Torvill and Dean on ITV set?

Torvill and Dean spans from the 1960s to the 1980s with most of the action taking place in Nottingham, where the duo both grew up on a council estate.

The film will culminate with the pair winning gold at the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo in then-Bosnia.

Other key settings will include the Nottingham Ice Centre where they first started skating and also their homes which will see the dynamic with their parents.

Viewers can also expect to see the pair travelling around the world as they take part in competitions on their road to victory with their unforgettable routine to Bolero.

William Ivory, who penned the script for the emotional drama, said it wasn’t a sports movie and instead was a look at the skaters as people.

He said: “Quickly, I came to realise that this story of perfection – for that was what they achieved with their Olympic Bolero routine, and how their partnership was more generally described – was extraordinarily intricate and contradictory.”

Where is Torvill and Dean on ITV filmed?

Torvill and Dean was filmed in the Belfast, Northern Ireland with a shoot lasting several weeks.

Lead stars Tudor and Friar were given two weeks to get to grips with ice skating before they had to start filming. The actors were trained by Olympic skaters Nick Buckland and Penny Coomes.

The more complicated moves were also performed by Buckland and Coomes, who are being touted as the next Torvill and Dean.

In an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk, Coomes said: “We filmed for five weeks and on the ice was two. We filmed over night, so we did night shoots for that which was actually good fun.

“I thought it would be hard because I’m a bed early kind-of-person. I was a bit worried about that but no, it was actually fun.”

Speaking about filming, Friar said to ITV: “We filmed at Dundonald International Ice Bowl in Belfast.

“We were filming in 2018, and most of the ice rinks, including the one in Nottingham, now look very modern. That’s why we had to use one ice rink to double as quite a few all over the world. Some CGI helps make it look of the time.”

While co-star Tudor went on to talk about the famous Bolero dance and filming scenes of the famous routine.

He explained: “We filmed at the Dundonald Ice Bowl in Belfast. We were very lucky to have the use of the rink and it was a very versatile space.

“The difficulty with shooting at Nottingham Ice Rink was that because of the work of Chris and Jayne and the funding they managed to get for that area, it’s now too ‘2018’, so would not have worked for our drama.

“The staff at Dundonald were wonderful and it was a nice place to be for two weeks of night shoots.”
