Billionaire Elon Musk supports US withdrawal from NATO

 Technology billionaire Elon Musk once called NATO an “obsolete” organization and expressed skepticism about the existence of this military alliance in the post-Cold War era.

Billionaire Elon Musk has publicly voiced his support for the idea of ​​the US withdrawing from both the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and the United Nations (UN).

Specifically, on March 2, in response to a post on social media supporting this move, the person appointed by US President Donald Trump to head the Office of Government Efficiency (DOGE) commented: “I agree”.

Mr. Trump has repeatedly questioned the value of NATO, and has repeatedly pressed allied countries in the military bloc to increase defense spending.

In February this year, Senator Mike Lee of Utah also proposed that the US withdraw from the UN completely because he believed that this organization “failed to prevent war, genocide and pandemics”.

Agreeing with the above view, Mr. Musk wrote on social network X that “America gives too much money to the UN and related entities”.

Billionaire Musk has expressed skepticism about NATO, calling the alliance “obsolete” and calling for a comprehensive review of its need in the post-Cold War era. 

Although Mr. Trump did not directly announce his plan to leave NATO, he repeatedly urged European countries to increase defense spending and warned that “the US should not shoulder the financial burden of the alliance alone.”

Just days after taking office, President Trump questioned whether the US should spend any more money on NATO, saying the US was protecting NATO members but they were “not protecting us.”

Mr. Trump has called on NATO countries to allocate 5% of their gross domestic product (GDP) to defense spending, more than double the current 2% target and a level that no NATO country, including the United States, is meeting.
