Jayne Torvill husband: How Christopher Dean has ‘more trust’ in Jayne than anyone else

JAYNE TORVILL and Christopher Dean have been skating together for 45, and it is a relationship which has lasted the years – as Christopher has “more trust” in Jayne than anyone else.

Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean are renowned ice skating stars, wowing at the Olympics and now on Dancing on Ice. The pair have never had a romantic relationship, but their 45-year-long partnership has stood the test of time.

Away from the ice, Torvill is married to Phil Christensen and has two adopted children Kieran and Jessica.

The family of four live together in East Sussex.

Torvill revealed on Piers Morgan’s Life Stories a friend convinced her to adopt.

She said: “A friend of mine had adopted a little boy. She said, ‘Come and see him.’

“At that point, I wasn’t ready to look into adoption, I was still thinking it was going to happen.

“And you’ve got to be ready for it if you want to adopt. I said to my husband, ‘I don’t know if I can do this’.

“And I went to see this little boy, and I wanted to bring him home.”

Despite rumours of Torvill and Dean being romantically involved, both have previously said the thought never crossed their minds.

Dean has been married twice, first to French-Canadian World ice dance champion Isabelle Duchesnay and then to American skater Jill Trenary.

Dean and his second wife have two sons, Jack Robert and Sam Colin.

Now, Dean is in a relationship with British figure skater Karen Barber and has been since 2011.

Karen and Dean released a joint statement confirming their relationship in 2011 saying: “We have been great friends for more than 30 years.

“Following recent media speculation, we feel the necessity to confirm that this year has seen a change in our relationship, but we are taking things very slowly, as it is early days.

“We’d very much like to thank our dear friends, who have been so incredibly supportive to us.

“We both have families with children, so we ask the media to please respect their privacy.”

Of Torvill and Dean’s famous relationship Dean said in 2010: “It’s unique.

Torvill told the Daily Mail in 2010: “I remember somebody saying to me: ‘If you’re dating your ­skating partner and the ­relationship breaks down, you won’t have your ­skating partner.’

“We were very conscious the most important thing to us was the skating.

“We put in an awful lot of work.

“We wouldn’t throw it away with a relationship with each other — or with other people — because we didn’t have the time. It takes over your life.”

“We’re not brother and sister. We’re not husband and wife.

“But we formed our own friendship that required much more trust than any ­relationship.

“We’ve been together longer than both my marriages lasted.”

Torvill added: “This is the most sustained relationship we’ve both had.”
