“I Raised My Fatherless Son For Ten Years — The Whole Village Mocked Me, Until Expensive Cars Stopped In Front Of The House And The Boy’s Real Father Made Everyone Cry”
It was a hot afternoon in the village. I — Hanh — was crouching, picking up the dry branches to scorch.
At the door, my son, ten years old, sat looking at me with complete innocence.
“Mom, why don’t I have a father like my classmates?”
I didn’t get an answer. I haven’t had an answer to that question in ten years.
People Who Are Filled With Mockery
When I was pregnant, the murmurs began to echo in the village:
“Oh! Unmarried! Shame on the parents!”
I’ve been very patient with it all. Carrying my growing belly, I worked everywhere — pulling weeds, harvesting rice, washing dishes in the dining room.
Some people throw garbage across the street, some deliberately speak loudly when I walk by:
“Your son’s father may have run away, who would want to take on such a shame?”
They didn’t know — the man I loved, overjoyed when he found out I was pregnant.
He said he was going home to tell his parents and ask for a blessing to marry me.
I believed in him, with all my heart.
The next day, however, he disappeared like a bubble.
Since then, I’ve been waiting every day — no news, no message.
Over the years, I have been raising my son on my own.
There were nights when I was angry with him, there were nights I cried and prayed that he was still alive… Even though I’ve been forgotten.
Ten Years of Struggle
In order to educate my son, I stretched a bone.
Every penny is saved, every tear is swallowed.
Whenever my son is tempted to “have no father,” I give him a hug and say:
“You have a mother, son. And that’s enough.”
But the man’s words — like a knife that cuts through my heart over and over again.
At night, as she slept, I would stare at the lamplight, I would remember the man I had loved then — her smile, her eyes full of warmth — and I would cry silently.
The Day Expensive Cars Stop in Front of the House
One morning, I was sewing my son’s clothes when I suddenly heard a loud engine noise.
The neighbors came out.
Across the street from our shabby house, a row of black cars pulled up — clean, expensive, seemingly from the city.
People are muttering:
“Seriously! Who owns these cars? It’s worth millions!”
I shuddered, grabbed my son’s hand and walked over.
The door of one of the cars opened, and an old man — white-haired, black-skinned, with wet eyes — stepped down.
He stared at me, and before I could speak… He knelt down on the mud ground.
I was surprised.
“Mang… Please stand up! What are you doing?”
He took my hand, his voice trembling:
“Ten years… Finally, I found you too — and my grandson.”
The whole village was stunned.
“What?” he whispered, his voice barely audible.
She took an old photograph — the face of the man I loved.
It was the same. I
couldn’t stop sobbing.
The old man told me that on the day I told him I was pregnant, his daughter was overjoyed and rushed home to say goodbye and ask for our wedding.
But on her way back to me, the car crashed — and she died right away.
He had been searching for me for ten years.
When he found my name in old hospital records, he went around several provinces — until we were found here.
The Truth That Brought Tears to Everyone’s Eyes
As the old man turned to the cars, a driver got out and opened the door.
On the side of the car, the logo of “Lâm Gia Group” — the country’s largest corporation — was engraved. Everything
was shattered.
“Oh my God… that boy is the only grandson of President Lâm!” the crowd roared.
The old man came up to my son, squeezed his hand and said with tears in his eyes:
“From now on, son, you don’t have to suffer. You are the blood and flesh of the Lâm family.”
I just stood, tears in my eyes, and I could feel the weight on my chest slowly lightening.
The eyes of the neighbors that had once been filled with contempt, now bowed.
Others, knelt down and apologized.
Wakas
When my son and I left the village, it rained again — just like ten years ago.
But now, I don’t see it as a curse anymore. I
already know: even if the world despises it, as long as it remains faithful and steadfast, the truth will come out.
I, the mother once mocked by all,
now stands high-browed,
holding my son’s hand,
And with a smile of peace on his lips.
