Dave Portnoy Was Offered Big-Time Job From The White House That Requires Him To Leave Barstool Sports

Dave Portnoy has revealed that he’s been offered a big U.S. Government job following Donald Trump’s return to office.
Portnoy founded Barstool Sports in 2000 and has seen it grow into one of the most notable sports brands in American media following its start as a gambling newsletter.
The 47-year-old regained full control of the company after buying it back from PENN Gaming in August 2023. But whatever the job is, it would have required him to give it up.
Speaking on his ‘Davey Day Trader’ show this week, Portnoy disclosed having been offered a job working under Secretary Howard Lutnick in the U.S. Commerce Department.
He didn’t reveal exactly what it was but said he turned it down because he didn’t want to leave Barstool, something he implied was unfair because Elon Musk is heading the DOGE committee while still fully committed to Tesla and SpaceX.
“How do you run Tesla when you’re working on DOGE 24-7?” he asked. “You kind of want your CEO with the eye on the ball, right?”

Jaylen Brown might want out? Jazz into J-Rich? Dissecting trade rumbles and strategies with Adam Kaufman
With the 2022 NBA trade deadline less than two weeks away, Silly Season — that time of year you can’t trust a trade rumor further than you can throw it — has arrived. And with it, new reports that Jaylen Brown might want out of the Boston Celtics if things don’t improve with the team moving forward, plus whispers the Utah Jazz (headed by former Celtics president Danny Ainge) might have eyes for Josh Richardson on the trade market. How much stock should we put in such rumors? Does it matter if the reporter has impeccable bonafides? What should the team’s front office be considering regarding the players they have now should teams come calling? Are there players Boston needs to be shopping ahead of the Feb. 10 deadline? So many questions and we might just be warming up with several staring contests between rival GMs already starting to get further entrenched, so for this week’s CLNS Media “Celtics Lab” podcast, we’re joined by fellow CLNS alum Adam Kaufman to talk all things Celtics and trade deadline. Listen to the clip embedded above to get up to speed with the latest rumors and facts percolating up as the moratorium on dealing players in the 2021-22 season draws close. Previewing Bucks-Cs on Christmas, the state of the East, NBA expansion and more with Jeff Zillgitt
The Boston Celtics are poised to play in one of the major milestone games of the 2022-23 NBA season against the Milwaukee Bucks on Christmas Day, and whether or not you believe it should be the case, a lot of narratives surrounding contention odds, the MVP, and even All-Star races may be impacted by that contest. But what can we really learn about the state of the East, the cases to take home season-long hardware, and how each team is playing now (and might play in the postseason) based on what we will see on December 25th? What should we be watching for, and which players should we focus our attention on as Boston faces Milwaukee and Giannis Antetokounmpo as well as their other near-term games? To get a bead on the state of the Celtics and their peers in the East, the hosts of the Celtics Lab podcast linked up with USA TODAY’s Jeff Zillgitt to talk over the Celtics’ recent play, our expectations for the big national TV game and beyond, and more. Get up to speed on Boston’s Christmas Day prospects, as well as what we can glean from their recent stumbles and their schedule to close out December. A Boston Celtics Festivus for the rest of us to get some gripes off of our chests
The Boston Celtics are seemingly stuck at around .500 midway through yet another season that was supposed to be the campaign that saw them finally ascend to contender status while a large part of the roster (and for that matter, the NBA) is in the league’s health and safety protocol after testing positive for COVID-19 despite the majority of the team being vaccinated. Between all this, the political zoo appearing on our televisions and cell phones on a daily basis, and a host of other disappointing to downright frightening things going on in the world at the moment, there is no limit to the things fans of the Celtics could — and should — be complaining about. To that end, on this week’s episode of the CLNS Media “Celtics Lab” podcast, hosts Justin Quinn, Alex Goldberg, and Cameron Tabatabaie host a Festivus-inspired airing of the grievances for all things Boston Celtics, NBA, and beyond. We try to keep it mostly light in a bit of a dark patch in the NBA schedule with all the COVID-related news currently gripping the league (and put most of the pandemic related talk further towards the end), and touch on the team’s recent play and signing of former No. 10 pick Joe Johnson to keep things balanced. So, be sure to check out the clip embedded above to hear all there is to gripe about in the Celtics media sphere on up with your three favorite NBA curmudgeons. CLPod 74: The Cs teams that never were, late summer moves & more
Two months out from the start of the regular season, and nearly half as long from camp, more than a few of us are starting to get antsy without basketball to watch. With that in mind, we decided it was time to dust off the microphones and record an episode of the CLPod to talk about the (very few) moves of note going down since the last time we recorded two weeks ago.And with the team in a liminal space between seasons, neither last season’s Celtics nor the next, Mark Allison and Justin Quinn got to thinking about all the different ways this timeline of Boston’s journey from one contending squad to the next could have gone differently. So, we put our heads together, and tried to imagine how the Cs might look if Danny Ainge had kept the last title team together longer, or if Brad Stevens had said no, or if Boston hadn’t signed Al Horford, or…well, you’ll have to listen to hear them all.So, if you’re as ready as we are for some real, live NBA games that count, you’re going to have to wait a while. But if you want some news and analysis on not just this timeline, but several others we don’t happen to be on, buckle up and listen to this week’s CLPod – we have at least another month of doldrums ahead of us, and a lot to be thankful for, if our thought experiments are as realistic as we think they are.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/celtics-lab-nba-basketball-podcast/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy Learn more about your ad choices. It appears Portnoy has rubbed shoulders with the right people. He made his position on Trump clear back in 2015, claiming he did not care that the President was unserious, racist, or sexist,
“I hope he stays in the race and I hope he wins. Why? Because I love the fact that he is making other politicians squirm,” he wrote.
Things could continue to get interesting for the Barstool brand owner, just as long as he doesn’t have to give up control again.
