On the first day of my marriage, my sister-in-law poured a whole basin of dirty water on me, when I found out the reason, I was stunned
I am Anna, 27 years old. After breaking up with my first love that lasted for four years at university in New York, I met and fell in love with Michael. We had only known each other for half a year when he proposed to get married. The reason he gave was very clear: his sister, Sophia, who was studying abroad in London, would return to the US for a few weeks, and he wanted the wedding to take place at that time so that the whole family could reunite.
Hearing Michael talk about Sophia with such a loving gaze, I also wanted to get married quickly to please my sister-in-law.
On the wedding day, there were so many guests, I didn’t have a chance to meet Sophia, I couldn’t even remember what my sister-in-law looked like. As soon as the wedding party ended, Michael pulled me straight back to the bridal chamber, not giving me time to talk to my parents-in-law and his sister.
The first day of being a daughter-in-law – an unexpected shock
After a tiring night, the next morning I woke up early to prepare breakfast for the whole family with the hope of making a good impression. When the whole family was gathered under the dining table, only Sophia had not come down. I volunteered to climb to the third floor to call her.
But as soon as I reached the stairs, a basin of dirty water was poured straight on me. Luckily, I held onto the railing, otherwise I might have slipped and fallen down. When I regained my composure, I saw Sophia standing there, looking pleased.
I tried to hold back my anger, trembling and asked:
– “Why did you do that to me, on the first day I came home?”
Sophia smiled faintly:
– “That was still too easy.”
Then she leisurely walked downstairs, leaving me standing there drenched, like a drowned rat that had just crawled out of the sewer.
The secret of the past was exposed
I changed my clothes and sat down at the dining table. But Sophia coldly said in front of everyone:
– “I thought my future sister-in-law was someone, but she turned out to be my old love rival. She lived off Thomas’s money for four years in college – he was both my boyfriend and the one who provided for her. The day I found out, I broke up with Thomas right away. Then a few months later I went to study abroad. I thought he and she were together. Who would have thought she would now become my brother’s wife? I don’t understand what’s wrong with my brother’s eyes that he chose her?”
The whole room fell into silence. My face turned pale. It was true that in the past, I was wrong: my first love with Thomas was just using him to get money for school. I didn’t know that at that time, he was also Sophia’s boyfriend.
My husband’s family turned their backs
My mother-in-law severely insulted me, hinting that I should leave the house as soon as possible. Michael angrily left for work without saying a word.
The following days, no one in my husband’s family bothered to talk to me. Michael went to work and slept at his friend’s house, not bothering to come home. I was lost in the big house, trying to cook and clean, but everyone’s eyes were still cold and prejudiced.
My past had become an indelible stain in their eyes. But now, I had changed, becoming a caring wife, a well-behaved daughter-in-law. It was just a pity that no one believed it.
A dead end in marriage
I sat in my room, looking out the snow-covered window in the suburbs of New Jersey, my heart choked. The marriage had just begun and was already at a dead end. I didn’t know how to make people overlook my past and see me as I am now – a wife, a daughter-in-law who longed to be loved and recognized.
