Discovering 30 red spots like insect eggs on my husband’s back, taking him to the emergency room, the doctor immediately said: Call the police immediately…
My husband and I have been married for 8 years, living in Houston, Texas. Life is simple, not rich but full of laughter. He is quiet, when he comes home from work he only hangs around with his wife and children. In the past few months, he has been tired, and his back is always scratching because it itches. I thought it was an allergy to the weather or a mosquito bite.
One morning, while he was sleeping, I accidentally saw tiny red spots on his back. At first there were only 4-5 spots, then more and more. They were arranged in clusters, looking like “insect eggs” stuck to the skin. I lifted his shirt to check carefully—I counted more than 30 spots. My heart was pounding.
“Get up, I’ll take you to the hospital!” He even laughed and said it was probably an allergy. I insisted: “No. I think it’s very unusual.”
We rushed to the Emergency Department (ER) of a large hospital in Houston. The doctor on duty looked at his back and changed his expression, his voice stern:
— Call 911 immediately!
I was stunned. Why did we have to call 911 just because of a few red spots? Was there something terrible that I didn’t know about?
Another group of doctors came, covered his back with sterile towels and asked him in a rush:
— Have you been in contact with anyone strange recently?
— What do you do for a living?
— Is anyone in the family like this?
I trembled: “My husband is a construction worker. He’s been tired these past few days, we think it’s because of hard work.”
Less than 15 minutes later, the Houston police arrived. They coordinated with the hospital to take him to a private room for examination; I was kept outside, my heart burning.
A moment later, the doctor came out, looked at me with concern…
— Don’t worry too much. The red spots are not an infectious disease, but rather a sign of external impact. We suspect that someone intentionally applied an irritant/blistering substance to his skin.
I was stunned. “Someone… did that to my husband?”
The police began to investigate: his schedule, his work colleagues, his relationships. Then I suddenly remembered: he had been coming home late lately, asking to stay and clean up; there was a time when his clothes smelled of strange chemicals.
When I told him, the police officer nodded:
— It is highly likely that he was harmed with an irritant/corroding substance. The red spots are a reaction after the substance penetrated the skin. Luckily you took him away in time, otherwise the consequences would have been unpredictable.
After a few days of treatment, the red spots had dried up, the doctor said there would be no long-term consequences. He held my hand, his eyes red:
— I apologize for hiding it from you. At the construction site, I had a conflict with a group of people because they refused to sign fraudulent documents. I thought they were just threatening me, but I didn’t expect them to be so cruel.
I choked up and hugged him tightly. Who would have thought that a gentle, honest person like him would fall into the vortex of greed?
Shortly after, Houston police coordinated with OSHA inspectors to follow the camera, testimony, traces of chemicals… and arrested the mastermind—a former colleague of my husband’s. He was resentful for being prevented from embezzling from the project, so he smeared an irritant on his chair cushion/protective clothing.
When the truth was revealed, I was both angry and heartbroken: just for the sake of unjust gain, someone dared to put others in danger.
After the incident, I cherished my family even more. I understood that disasters can come unexpectedly, and a minute of delay can cause a loved one to be lost forever. Every time I remember the moment the doctor shouted “Call 911 now!”, my heart still aches—but it was that moment that revealed the truth, saved my husband’s life, and forced the evil person to pay the price.
He often said:
— Maybe God wants to remind us to appreciate each other more. I am lucky to have you—if you hadn’t taken me to the ER that day, I don’t know what would have happened.
I smiled through my tears, holding his hand tightly. Money can’t buy these things: love, trust, and companionship in times of trouble. And I will always remember—true love is not just about peaceful days, but also about going through storms together
